Best Selling Makeup Products Of All Time

Best Selling Makeup Products Of All Time

Welcome back to my blog. Today I am going to share with you a few best-selling makeup products of all time, and give my thorough critic on them. These makeup bestsellers include foundation, primer, finishing powder, eyeshadow palette, and some lip color for your face.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 Foundation

MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 Foundation

Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 Foundation is MAC's bestselling foundation. It was also worn by the K-Pop Idol and the current global brand ambassador for MAC, the Blackpink’s Lisa Manobal, in her latest shoots. It is lightweight, breathable, and a natural matte foundation that gives medium to full buildable coverage. It is a 24-hour wear foundation and ideal for all skin types. It contains broad-spectrum SPF 15 to protect skin from UV damage. 30 ml retails for 36 US Dollar.

The foundation comes in true to color seven ranges consisting of pigmented 63 shades. The shades range from light to medium-dark. The ranges include both cool and warm shades, which further break down into neutral and golden undertones. I am in the shade NC20. The brand claims that neither does this foundation cake nor cause a breakout. Considering I have got dry and acne-prone skin and I have been using this foundation for a couple of years, I did not experience any issues with it. It stays on my face for eight hours a day regardless of any season. It glides on the skin, makes it look smooth, flawless, and natural.

PRO Tip: If you want to do full coverage with a buildable or full coverage foundation, remember to contour your face to add dimension and depth.

I prefer medium coverage so this way I get to avoid contouring.

A few points to consider though, it does make my skin look matte but does not control the shine on my face. Although I do like the natural finish it gives, but I always follow up with a setting powder on the t-zone. People with very dry skin type may want to avoid this foundation because it might get very drying on them.

PRO Tip: If you have very dry skin and yet want to go for a matte finish, wear a hydrating primer underneath to keep your skin looking plump. Or else go for a creamy, or dewy, or demi-matte foundation.

My other concern is that it does not come with a pump. You have to tap it on your hand to get some out. For hygiene reasons any excess I get on the hand, I need to waste that.

Before MAC, I had Nars Sheer Glow foundation for $47 which had a dewy finish. Now that my skin keeps getting drier with time, I plan to get a dewy foundation. I have shortlisted a few. Once I buy any of them, I would share my experience with you.

Benefit The POREfessional Face Primer

Benefit The POREfessional Face Primer

What does a primer do to your face?

A face primer reduces the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. It blurs imperfections, makes a good canvas for makeup, and enhances its pigment.

Benefit The POREfessional Face Primer is a cult classic, and among the most popular products by Benefit Cosmetics. It is silicone-based, translucent, oil-free, and has a silky and lightweight balm texture. It mattifies and controls shine around the t-zone, giving your face a natural finish. It has a nice gentle fragrance and is suitable for dry, normal, combination, and oily skin types and tones. But be aware that it is not for extra dry skin; in case of that, go for a different primer that is hydrating. This primer minimizes the appearance of pores along with fine lines by filling them in. As it is translucent, it offers a little bit of coverage by giving your complexion a tint for a go-to blurred, casual, and fresh look. That is why you can wear it with or without makeup. It evens out discoloration and softens the transition of color. The primer comes in both full and travel-size which makes it convenient to carry.

How to use

When you use it, apply a pea-sized amount or less, on the center of the face after putting on your moisturizer, and blend outward. Wait for a minute or two to let it set before applying your foundation.

You might need to consider a few things. There are many primers out there that cause a breakout. I have acne-prone skin, so I usually avoid primers. This primer did not break me out but the same might not be true for everyone. Also, the pores do get obvious within a few hours. This usually happens with silicone-based primers because they fix the pores only temporarily. For that, the brand says to do a touch-up on the targeted area and pat lightly. The primer did not cover my pitted acne scars. Also, since it is oil-free, be careful with the moisturizer and the foundation you pair it with. Also, if you apply more than the recommended amount of the primer, it may cause pilling, but only in a few cases. I also find Benefit to be quite pricey. A 22ml tube retails for 32 US Dollar.

NYX Professional Make Up High Definition Finishing Powder

NYX Professional Make Up High Definition Finishing Powder

Setting Powder vs. Finishing Powder

The finishing powder must not be confused with the setting powder. The difference between setting and finishing powders is that the setting powder locks and sets your makeup in place, and controls shine. Whereas finishing powder blurs the skin to hide wrinkles and imperfections. It is different from setting powder as it does not set makeup but diffuses light to give your skin a brightening effect and glow.

According to NYX, the High Definition Finishing Powder 8g is a lightweight, translucent finishing powder. Moreover, it is a silky pressed powder that gives a brightening, and fresh matte finish to the skin. It comes in three shades; translucent, banana, and color-correcting mint green. It is generally known to suit light skin tones.

How to use

Dab the powder brush in the product once and tap the brush to get the excess off. Lightly sweep it all over the face after applying your setting powder. Remember, just a little bit will go a long way.

The product retails for 11 US Dollar. If you want to splurge, then go for Make Up For Ever’s Ultra HD Pressed Powder for $37. Otherwise, I would say it is a pretty good product for the price and has very good ratings.

Sleek MakeUP i-Divine Au Naturel Eyeshadow Palette

Sleek MakeUP i-Divine Au Naturel Eyeshadow Palette

A bestseller of Sleek MakeUP, the i-Divine Eyeshadow Palette Au Naturel, is a mineral-based palette. It has twelve matte, satin, and shimmery shades that are light neutral base colors, and a good range of dark neutral and smoky shades. The packaging is very sleek and compact to carry in your bag. The texture glides, and the colors are wearable in the day and also at night. The palette has light sheer colors, but pigmented darker colors.

I bought this palette after Charlotte Tilbury used it in her two makeup tutorials. She called the colors "universally flattering", and I must say that it’s a decent palette. You can use it to create daily wear, natural, subtle, and soft smoky looks. The colors are neutral so these will suit most skin tones. Though in some cases, few shades were not liked by people with darker skin tones. It has a staying power of around six hours.

PRO tip: Always wear your eye primer underneath the eye makeup for better color payoff and staying power.

This is a palette in a budget that you can use as a go-to, but for evening events, you would need to go for a different palette. If you want to go up the price, check out Tarte and Anastasia palettes for a better pigment and a professional look. For a real splurge, Natasha Denona does excellent ones. Although I don’t need another palette right now, I would be buying the richly pigmented Tarte or Anastasia palette soon in the future. So once I do that I would let you know.

Bourjois Paris Contour edition Lip Liner and Rouge velvet lipstick

Bourjois Paris Contour Edition Lip Liner

What does a lip liner do

A lip liner gives a stencil to your lips. You can cheat your lip line and then fill in your lip product.

PRO Tip: Always remember to wear your lip liner before, and not after, your lipstick for better results.

I bought the Bourjois Paris lipstick shade 008 Corail Aie Aie. This pencil has shea butter, grapeseed oil, silk powder, and ascorbyl palmitate in it. The pencil comes in 15 shades. I bought two shades and found the pencils to be quite decent. It has a creamy silky texture, gives a semi-matte finish, is blendable, and has a nice glide. The brand says that the pencil stays put for twelve hours. But the pencil stays on me for around six hours. It is also not completely smudge-proof and can get a bit drying to fill the lips for someone like me who has Sahara dry lips. But I would still say that it is better than many others for the price. For a splurge, Urban Decay and Charlotte Tilbury lip pencils are among the bestsellers for even performing as a lip color. The 1.14 g Bourgois pencil retails for approximately 7 USD. I got this shade to match it with the lipstick given below and here is fully justified! :D

Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick

I got Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick 15 Peach Tatin. It is a very creamy, yet matte velvet-textured lipstick that glides. The color is a dark peachy nude which I pair with the lip pencil shade 008. Many people have loved the highly pigmented shades of this lipstick. For someone with chronically dry lips, I usually avoid matte lipsticks. But this one stays and does not dry out my lips. I was looking for the perfect peachy nude shade in a darker tone and I ended up falling for the texture, but more so with the color. This shade is hands down, so beautiful you don’t feel like taking it off! This enhances your natural beauty and makes you look even prettier. For reference, I am Asian eastern with a warm undertone. After my first buy, I ended up buying an extra and stocked it for later!
