Beauty Products Just Not For Me

Beauty Products Just Not For Me

Today I would be talking about all the beauty products I used that did not suit me. Some of these products are bestsellers. Others are overrated at best and might get generous ratings from me. The purpose of this product reviews post, "Beauty Products Just Not For Me" is to help you if you wish to use any of these products and need help in deciding should you buy them.

This post would remain a living document and get additions to more products that did not suit me – factors such as application, texture, feel, and result. I would call them hyped beauty products, or even probably beauty products not worth the hype, and for me to buy. Most of these products are K-beauty for now, but would not be restricted to them in future. I have dry and acne prone skin type, for your reference. So let's get started.

COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch Review

Pros:

In terms of quantity and price, COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch, $6.00 is good value for money.

Cons:

This product has worked for many people, but I have tough acne and unfortunately it just did not work for me. But more so the point that I didn't like - it was too much of a sticker! To the extent that it took off or more so, waxed my facial hair from where I removed the pimple patch. For me, that was a scare and I don’t want to use such products. So I don't use this anymore. The COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch is lying idle on my dresser.

ROVECTIN Lotus Water Cream Review

Pros:

The main ingredient of Rovectin Lotus Water Cream, 2.03 fl. oz. (60ml), $20 is lotus water extract, Aquaxyl as the base which acts as the moisturizing agent. It is very lightweight. It is more suitable for normal to oily skin types.

Cons:

Although it is a very lightweight moisturizer, but not oil-free. It is not hydrating enough for dry to very skin types and one may need to wear another hydrating or moisturizing product for better results.

I found the product quite lightweight for myself. It was not hydrating or moisturizing at all. I had two issues from the product – it left my face with dry patches and my skin felt pulled and tightened from the dryness. Two, after only one application, it left oily residue on my skin that broke me out. I usually buy water based products because they're specifically made for me, but I bought this over the hype. Another hyped beauty product - sadly, this bestseller did not do any good to my skin. In fact I found this product quite basic and overrated. There is nothing special about this product. It turned out to be one of my most disappointing buys.

BEAUTY OF JOSEON Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics (SPF50+ PA++++) Review

Pros:

Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice +Probiotics (SPF50+ PA++++), 50ml (1.69 fl. oz.), $18 has a good ingredient list. It has rice and grain fermented extracts, hence the reason I bought it. It is a chemical and organic sunscreen with a good SPF coverage of SPF50+ PA++++.

It has a mousy texture, and feels calming on the skin during application – and that is the product’s highlighted feature.

Cons:

The sunscreen texture feels light, but it sits heavy on the skin! It feels like a paste on the skin and is slightly tacky. More so, it feels like a plaster stuck on the face that wouldn’t come off.

I found it strange that after layering the product even once, the product came off on my nails every time I touched my face - the product pilled. The base i.e. moisturizer I used under this is a lightweight high quality K-beauty product. I have very dry skin and yet, the product didn't blend well on my face the way it should. This might do better as a standalone product without a moisturizer. I could not re-apply it because it didn't blend and pilled more. Also, on second application, it gives a tone up effect. I’m also not a fan of the packaging – it is shaped like an ointment tube.

Another hyped beauty product; in my opinion this sunscreen is more hyped and overrated than it actually deserves. There are better sunblocks out there that I have tried.

COSRX Balancium Comfort Ceramide Hand Cream Light Review

Pros:

COSRX Balancium Comfort Ceramide Hand Cream Light, 1.69 fl.oz / 50ml, $12 is a thin gel texture. It has a good ingredient list; 108 ppm Ceramide-6, and 500 ppm Hyaluronic Acid. It has amazing citrus fragrance from bergamot oil. It is good for normal skin types.

Cons:

I found it extremely lightweight. It just did not treat my hands at all. My hands looked and felt the same as they did after washing them. It is definitely not made for my type of dry to extremely dry, cracked hands. I have not tried the intense version because it was out of stock when I purchased it, but that may be more suited for the purpose. But I’m rating it for enjoying the fragrance.

KLAVUU Nourishing Care Lip Sleeping Pack Review

Pros:

KLAVUU Nourishing Care Lip Sleeping Pack, 20g, $13 is good for people whose lips are not badly cracked or don’t need serious lip therapy i.e. require moderate lip care. Its main ingredients are avocado, sweet almond and apricot oils.

Cons:

This balm is very thick, waxy texture. It does not feel hydrating or moisturizing, or penetrate the skin. It only coats the lips without softening or healing any cracks. In my opinion, cheaper and known lip treatment products perform better than this such as Vaseline, Carmex, and Burt’s Bees. For me, this product did not do anything. I had a better experience with Laneige lip balm. Surprisingly Klavuu lip balm is among the bestsellers, I would say it is practically overrated.

It is not suitable for extremely dry, dehydrated, and cracked lips.

BENTON Snail Bee High Content Lotion Review

Pros:

BENTON Snail Bee High Content Lotion 120ml / 4.05 fl. oz., $20 has good ingredients. Snail mucin, bee venom, Hyaluronic acid, Niacinamide, and Adenosine.

Cons:

The texture is below mediocre. When applying on the face, the product pills and patches. One has to really massage and blend it in. Because of the patchiness, it cannot be layered twice.

The product did not improve my skin in any way; didn't provide hydration, made my skin oily within an hour. It broke me out and clogged pores. My whiteheads re-appeared on my face after years of treating them with good skincare. It undid all the efforts I ever did on my face. I am giving it a 1 star for the presence of snail mucin and bee propolis ingredients. The ingredients are good but not the recipe.

MISSHA All Around Safe Block Soft Finish Sun Milk SPF50+ PA+++ Review

Pros:

MISSHA All Around Safe Block Soft Finish Sun Milk SPF50+ PA+++, 70ml / 2.6 fl. oz., $29 is a hybrid tone up sunscreen. The product has a thin milky texture with a pinkish hue. It glides nice while applying and absorbs well.

It is waterproof and has a matte powdery finish. It is good for normal to oily skin types, and those seeking a matte finish and waterproof sunscreen. It is also good for people with neutral complexions.

Cons:

This was my first time trying a tone up, matte, waterproof sunscreen. It neutralized my complexion and made it lighter than the ears and neck. On second application it didn’t blend well and gave a ghostly look and formed visible patches here and there. Because it is waterproof and feels like the skin is coated, it comes off with difficulty and I had to use a cleanser for that. The matte powdery finish and waterproof formulation clogged my pores and broke me out. If any product breaks me out, I never buy it again. So I finished the remaining product on my hands and arms.

I also did not like one aspect of the packaging – there is a tiny ball in the bottle used to shake before applying. But once the product is near the end, the ball traps the nozzle, and any solution left comes out only with difficulty.

It is not good for dry skin types, as well as people of color.

Lesson learnt - I will never buy another tone up, matte, and waterproof sunscreens again.

COSRX AC Collection Lightweight Soothing Moisturizer Review

Pros:

COSRX AC Collection Lightweight Soothing Moisturizer 80ml / 2.70 fl. oz., $19 is closer to their Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap in texture and performance. This product has a very thin, watery gel like texture. It is suitable for oily, normal, and combination skin types.

Cons:

It is not suitable for dry, very dry, and dehydrated skin types, because the product is not hydrating enough. I have dry and acne prone skin. I layer it twice, it looks hydrating for only a few minutes but then fully absorbs – vanishing. It does not plump the skin the way their birch sap moisturizer does. One may need to reapply it after some time. The other reason is the ingredient list – it has menthol, essential oil, silicone, and alcohol. I found menthol too strong; that hurt my eyes, making them watery. I didn't find the product comfortable on my skin. In my opinion, this is an average product.

NINELESS Breworks Hair Boost Tonic Review

Pros:

A major superstar ingredient in NINELESS Breworks Hair Boost Tonic 100ml (3.38 Fl. Oz.), $25 is beer yeast 200,000ppm - rich in biotin. Additional ingredients are menthol and salicylic acid for calming and clearing scalp itch, and a few herbal extracts.

I used one bottle and would say that it did not boost my hair, but hair growth requires more product usage and especially time. But it did reduce the itch of my scalp.

Good for straight hair types.

Good for protein sensitive hair.

Cons:

I feel 100ml is less quantity for any kind of hair product.

Other than clearing the slight itch I had, the tonic did NOTHING good to my hair.

I had a very bad experience with this. After applying, it completely fluffed and tangled my hair into a stiff bird's nest that I could not comb or run hand through. I had to wash them to loosen the stiffness and brushed them later. That was a big no for me.

The product is definitely not for curls. It is not curly hair approved.

The product has no proteins. So if you're looking for protein treatments, I suggest you look elsewhere.

I would like to inform that I usually don't throw away beauty products that don't suit me. I use them on the rest of the body. But I definitely get rid of bad hair care products. Also, if you have used any of these products, it could be that they complemented your skin type and you had better experience. Every skin type is different and one solution does not fit all. So they were just not for me.

I hope you find the reviews helpful in deciding should you want to try them based on your skin type. Leave your comments below to let me know your thoughts. I’ll see you soon. Bye.

Comments

  1. I love reading negative reviews because it shows that even though a product is hyped, it is not going to work for everyone. I would like to try the COSRX acne patches, but they sound painful to remove so I'll pass on them. Also, that's horrible the Rovectin cream, the Benton lotion, MISSHA sunscreen broke you out. The Nineless hair tonic sounds terrible too and they should definitely disclose it is not suited for curly hair! Thank you for sharing these reviews!
